When Capital FM launched with the line “Isn’t it good to know…Capital Radio” it revolutionised the UK radio industry. The station, which launched a week after LBC, became the UK’s second commercial radio station and a massive hit with music fans across London.
Since then Capital has gone through many changes whilst continuing to retain its position as a pioneer in promoting new music and talent.
Yesterday marked a new chapter for the station, which is now a national brand across the UK.
Capital’s transition from local station to national brand is the single biggest move in British commercial radio history and means that the newly tuned Capital FM has become the first commercial rival to BBC Radio 1.
