Country Clothing Comes To The City

About two years ago I was given, as a very special treat, a beautiful ‘Philip Treacy for Purdey’ trilby as a Birthday present by the lovely group of people I work with! I absolutely fell in love with it, as anybody would… very much like the journalist Hannah Betts, who, after her amazing piece in today’s Daily Telegraph, has definitely fallen in love with Purdey. You can take a look at the article on page 33 of today’s paper (Wednesday 3rd November 2010) or read it here.

I have been, let’s say, inspired to shed a little light on the latest clothing collection from one of my clients - bespoke gun and rifle makers, James Purdey & Sons (http://www.purdey.com). The new range has some great pieces in it, and it’s all been created in conjunction with a bespoke tailor to make sure all the clothes fit perfectly. For me, some of the pieces that really stand out in this season’s collection are the women’s tweed capes (a winter ‘must-have’), and I also love the ladies wool and alpaca biker jacket. The new range features natural tweeds, all specially woven in Scotland using natural fibres and dyes wherever possible.

A lot of the collection has a much more contemporary feel to it than some of Purdey’s more classic shapes - making it appeal to a much wider audience than just those in search of classic country clothing. Living and working in London I’ve noticed so many more people wearing what we’d normally class as ‘country clothing’, in the city, i.e. women teaming fitted tweed jackets with a pair of jeans – adding a touch of ‘country’ to what would normally be a city outfit.

Here are some of my favourite pieces:
