As usual, the MacLaurin Media team took position on the red carpet, despite the freezing temperatures, to greet the stars from some of our favourite soaps, dramas and entertainment programmes as they arrived to meet their fans, pose for photographs and talk to the press.

Alison Hammond from ITV1’s This Morning, which took home the Topical Magazine Programme, warmed the crowd up as she filmed her package for this morning’s show, trying to muster up a bit of last minute support, before the first celebrities arrived. (You can watch her highlights from the awards here).

The cast of EastEnders, were the first to rock up in their stylish silver motors and from that point on, the carpet was buzzing for the next two hours as star after star showed off their best and worst stylish efforts. Louie Spence owned the red carpet, and in some cases the night, and proved to be one of the biggest crowd pleasers as he strutted and danced his way down the carpet, swerving in an out of shivering actresses and penguin suited actors and personalities.

Despite the wealth of stars, the MacLaurin team managed the entire night like a military operation, but our work didn’t end there. After two freezing hours of arrivals, the carpet may have closed but that meant the media centre was just opening, hosting the winners of each award as they came off stage. Compered by John ‘no nonsense’ Miller, hacks fought it out to make sure there question was answered amidst a flurry of flashing cameras.

Despite TV veterans Special Recognition Award winner Bruce Forsyth and Drama Performance Award winner Sir David Jason being in attendance, the biggest buzz came when Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell arrived fresh from picking up the prize for Best Talent Show for The X Factor. Not content with causing a stir on the red carpet Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell caused as media storm when they arrived with everyone desperate to know what is in store for the US and UK versions of Simon’s juggernaught show.

Overall the show now in its 16th year was an overwhelming success. Cheers came from everyone, well except Davina McCall, when Ant and Dec were awarded the Popular Entertainment Presenter prize for the 10th year running, whilst the new Digital Choice recognised E4’s hugely popular comedy The Inbetweeners.

The most moving moment of the night though came when Chilean miner Luis Urzua presented the Most Popular Drama award to Waterloo Road.
