National TV Awards Nominations Revealed

The nominations for the 16th annual National TV Awards have been announced.

The awards, which take place on the 26th January 2011, will be hosted by Dermot O’Leary at the O2 Arena and broadcast live on ITV1. 

The 12 categories, comprising of 249 nominees and voted for by the public, will see TV’s biggest stars compete for prizes across drama, soap, lifestyle and comedy.

Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles will go head-to-head with their The One Show replacements Alex Jones and Jason Manford as Daybreak and the former compete for the new Topical Magazine Show prize.

The much talked about category also includes nods for BBC Breakfast, This Morning and the recently axed GMTV.

In the Entertainment Programme category, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross and Big Brother, which both ended earlier this year, will compete against 30 other nominees including A Question of Sport, Ant and Dec’s Push the Button and Mock the Week along with the recently launched Paul O’Grady Live.

Ant and Dec, Davina McCall, Graham Norton and Harry Hill will all battle against 16 others to be crowned Entertainment Presenter, while Simon Cowell’s The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent will once again go up against Strictly Come Dancing in the Best Talent Show category.

Elsewhere, the awards will see the UK’s hottest new male actors, Matt Smith and Benedict Cumberbatch clash in the Drama Performance category, along with 48 other nominees, for their portrayals of Doctor Who and Sherlock respectively. The two hugely popular BBC shows will also compete against each other in the hotly contested Drama category along with Lewis, Law and Order UK, Ashes to Ashes and Wallander.

The ceremony will also see the introduction of a new category, in which Peter Andre and Katie Price will compete against E4’s most-watched watched programme, The Inbetweeners, to be crowned Best Digital Choice. The category also includes nominations for popular US imports Glee, 24 and Desperate Housewives and British teen favourites Skins and Being Human.

Other categories include Newcomer, Comedy Programme Factual Programme, Serial Drama and Serial Drama Performance.
