With the awards season well and truly upon us, showbiz journalists are run off their feet covering some of the biggest and most glamorous events in the showbiz calendar. Only weeks after our event, the National Television Awards took place we’re starting to think about our upcoming events, and there are certainly a few lessons to be learnt.
As a new ‘Tweeter’, today I notice Dean Piper, the Sunday Mirror’s showbiz guru, wasn’t at all happy with the PR Agency representing last night’s Elle Style Awards. He Tweeted four times about how disappointed he was with how they had treated him and said that he would never work with the Agency again. We’ve also seen a few similar Tweets from Holy Moly, who weren’t happy at not getting access to Sunday’s BAFTAs. Twitter is a dangerous world to be communicating in – one false move and your reputation can be damaged irrevocably.
As an Agency it’s our job to maximise our events, to get the best possible coverage for our clients. We’re aware of how important it is to manage relationships with journalists and ensure that wherever possible, they are getting the opportunities they need.
The way that Twitter works means that people can voice their opinions instantly, in a public domain, for thousands (sometimes millions) to see! Even more motivation to do a good job….. and Dean if you’re reading this just tell us what you want and we’ll do it… promise!
